About Valerie Murphy

My Philosophy
A single moment of understanding can flood a whole life with meaning. My intention is that together we reach this moment so you, your child, your family can bridge the gap to where you want to be. Change will not occur until you are truly ready to enter this process. Change must be internally motivated for it to last. Together we can build that motivation and readiness that may exist now as only a spark.
About Me
After receiving my Masters in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University, I began practicing at the YWCA, a shelter for homeless women, children and families. Here I was the Lead Therapist for the Passages program; a program for single, homeless ladies. I learned first hand how the long term effects of socioeconomic factors and familial generational patterns influence the path a person is on today. As a professor at University of Phoenix I was able to solidify my knowledge and understanding of the theories I use in my practice. My therapeutic approach is described as holistic integrating modalities such as EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. My expertise is adolescent interpersonal/behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, co-dependency, feelings of being "stuck."
